Joint hypermobility disorders :

ACL reconstruction and hypermobility - - Posted by yeoates (yeoates), 25 January 2004

Hi there

I've just posted this in the ACL topic section but realise I should have posted it here!!:

I was recently referred for a second opinion on my troublesome right knee - I appear to have damaged my reconstructed ACL in a fall - oh joy.

The Consultant (OS) I was referred to looked at me, realised I was hypermobile and said "I don't normally perform ACL reconstructions on hypermobile people" - This is the first I've heard of this -  I was particularly delighted as it is now 2 1/2 years since my first reconstruction!

It may be necessary to have another ACL reconstruction (I'm having an arthroscopy on the 5th Feb to see what's going on) but am rather concerned by his comment - can anyone give me some advice/explanation?

Many thanks in advance

Yvonne
