Bone breaks around the knee :

different kind of break... what to expect - - Posted by sarahabee082 (sarahabee082), 25 October 2004

I didn't see anything similar to my break on here, but I figured I'd give it a try. About 6 weeks ago, I fractured my upper medial femoral condyle. (Rocks & water balloon launchers do NOT mix well...) I can walk on it just fine, except for the limp. Going up stairs isn't bad, going down is impossible. I saw my OS last week, and he told me to get on the exercise bike, and come see him again in 2 weeks. I gave it a nice try, but it's the most painful thing I've felt in my entire life! The eliptical machine isn't bad, so I've been doing that instead. I can't bend my knee past 90 degrees-actually barely to degrees, and I can't straighten it completely. When I try to straighten it, it almost feels like something might snap. It's so tight all the time!

I'm looking for someone who has had a similar break, so I know what to expect. Should I have more range of motion by now? I'm just terrified...

I'm sorry you are having such an experience with not having anyone to relate to what you are going through, but it sounds like you may need a PT referral. If you are not doing PT, it would help to regain your motion and at the very least give you exercises you can do on your own at home to build muscle as well (as those "puppies" can atrophy quickly!!)

At any rate, keep us posted on your progress, and welcome to the club noone wants to join!  Roll Eyes
