snowboarding after surgery - - Posted by yaya (yaya), 20 January 2005

Hey guys,

so I am almost 8weeks post op and I have had an amazingly easy time (I just knocked on wood).

I have been walking since 4days post op and really I am doing great.

In any case, I'm dying to get back on the slopes- I was wondering how long you guys have gone before getting back into it.

thanks a ton and i hope all is well.

Although I'm not a specialist in winter sports, I'd say there isn't much that puts more stress on the knees than snowboarding.

I'm sorry but if I were you I'd be looking at the best part of a year  Huh

Not to rain on your parade but before my surgery (in JUNE mind you) I asked my PT if there was any chance I could ski this winter and he said no way. Your graft will be at its weakest point around the ~3 month post op mark.

Some food for thought.

I'm just over the 4 month mark and, up until a few weeks ago, I thought I would be back to regular activity in no time.  6 months is the time frame both my PT and Ortho gave me as a minimum.   My PT had an NHL player with a blown ACL in doing hardcore rehab and training (i.e. full-time, 7 days a week) and he was only able to get back on the ice at 5 months.  Point being, you can't rush the healing and you really don't want to compromise the surgery by testing out the knee early.

Pick up a PS2 and one of the SX games and fantasize Wink
