The patello-femoral joint :

Visible bump on kneecap.............. - - Posted by shadehawk (shadehawk), 11 January 2005

Hi I have a visible bump on the top lateral side of my  right patella (worse knee), anyone know what this might be?  It does not hurt to touch it but looks very strange.  Three different OS have see it and never told me what it was except probably genetic, but my other kneecap does not have any bumps on it.

I first noticed it after my fall in March, 2004.
It looks odd whenever I bend my knee to 90 degrees,  it is very visible.  Actually a few friends mentioned my wierd looking knee.

My PTO are great, but I notice that there are deep ridges when I take it off because my patella is banging up against the top of the brace.  You never know where that darn patella will go next.

Hey Shadehawk, I have a funny lump on the lateral side of my right kneecap, but it's from my LR surgery I think...so I have no idea what yours is from. However my kneecaps are both kind of lumpy.. bumpy.
Glad the PTO's are helping mine definately leave deep ridges on the outside where the patella is leaning on the buttress.

Hey Linds, hope you have a better day today.   Wink

Since I have never had any knee surgery that is why I was wondering about the bump.  This is the knee that is hyperextended.   Seems odd to me, but maybe it is nothing to worry about.  I also get terrible shin pain while walking, brace or not.  I really hate knees.

Yes, the PTO braces are a wonderful invention.  It has relieved alot of pain.   Grin
