Bone breaks around the knee :

Re: Questions for Fractured Patella Rehabs - - Posted by booms (booms), 30 August 2004

i thought we are not supposed to kneel when there are screws and wires in there... ? can u easily sit on the ground and stand up w/o support?

booms,

Didn't know there were any restrictions for knees with hardware. If you have heard otherwise, please let me know.

Am not sure what you mean when you ask can I "sit on the ground and stand up w/o support" -- yes, I guess so. Am sure I much touch something with my hands at some point on the way up and down -- you know, just the regular way.

Do you still have swelling in your knees? Thanks for any info, and best of luck in your recovery.

I don't have swelling.. i think my muscles aren't strong enough to lift my weight all the way up and down. i might be couple of degrees away from my heel touching the bum. my physio and the doc said that i will be able to but i shouldn't cause the wires will start irritating the skin if i pull them too much. so once the wires are out i can jump hop and skip. i thought kneeling down would put alot of pressure of hte wires and they would bother me later...

wow in 3 months u can do so much. i envy you Smiley

booms,

Am not 3 mos out of surgery but FIVE. And ya know, I still have mild heat and moderate swelling after standing up for a while without much movement -- walking, other exercises actually reduce what swelling there is, but just standing almost still for 15 minutes (as in puttering around the kitchen and so on) brings it on.

What you suggest about "wires irritating skin" when kneeling is interesting. Hadn't thought of that, so thanks. And I sure do "envy you" your NO swelling, that's terrific. Do you remember when you got there?

Best of luck and thanks -- MHB

my swelling went down before my stiches were removed. about 10 days after the surgery. i cycle about 15-20 mins everyday and also do strides. my knees bless me for that Smiley
can u run yet? our cases are similar. we both healed pretty fast. i hope u can run and hop.

Hi
I am almost 3 months post op from fractured patella. I only had swelling the first month but I still do get inflammation quite often.
I dont feel my adhesions at all.
I dont have full ROM yet, at the moment it's 110.
My knee is much stronger now and I can walk a bit faster now as well. I only limp when I am exhausted (end of work day) but when I'm well rested I walk quite normal.
Doing stretch exercises is still painful for me. I think it would be better when I have full ROM. My knee is still a little stiff in the mornings. My scar is starting to turn white at the edges. I have been using the German scargel since 2 weeks post-op called CONTRACTUBEX. It also helps with scartissue and it is really great. Works on pimples too! Wink

The slight burning you are feeling could be tendenitis and not adhesions especially since you have good ROM.  That would account for the sensation being over a large area.

I am jealous of how quickly everyone has recovered.  I am continuing to struggle with my recovery and at this point am beginning to question if I will every return to my ife.
I am happy that everyone is doing well just wish i could join the party.
