KNEE ARTHRITIS - General principles of managing Osteoarthritis of the knee :

How quick can arthritis set in? - - Posted by Greg_T. (Greg_T.), 12 January 2003

I am 3 days post-op for an ACL allograft, meniscus trim and the OS took a biopsy for a possible Carticel implant.  The OS said athritis had formed where cartilage was missing.  This surgery was about 2-1/2 months after the injury occured.  Could arthritis have set in that quick?  Or, was this likely from a previous injury I was unaware of?  For the record I'm a 32 year old fairly active male.

Thanks,
Greg

Had a Fulkerson 5 months ago, no arthritis was seen on Xrays back then, now 5 mo later it shows I have arthritis... I am 26 and was active before, now hoping to live somewhat painfree and surgery-free... So it can happen quite quickly. Never had any meniscus or ACLsurgery, so why arthitis?? Who knows.. Good luck
