Cruciate ligaments :

NHS flexibility when choosing op time - - Posted by TheGroover (TheGroover), 16 January 2005

Hi,

in the uk, and on the NHS, is there any flexibility in setting the date of your op?

i injured my ACL in summer 2002, but took myself off the list 18 months ago to go travelling. I went back on the list last July, and finally got a date in February for the op.

Unfortunately, I'm setting up for a season of competitive cycling, and this timing is just atrocious. I was always aiming to have a late summer/autumn op in order to rehab in the off-season.

what experience do people have of selecting dates on the NHS? I appreciate all the problems they have, but do they appreciate the issues we have as individuals?

I'm going to phone the hospital up and ask all these questions tomorrow, but i wondered what experiences others have had.

Thanks,

Andy

You can cancel then go back on the waiting list of course.

But near the time you want the op, ask about going on the cancellation list, then if someone cancels like you did, you can get the op done in their slot.

Good luck with the season's cycling!

Elly x

Ps - can I have your february slot!!?
