Cruciate ligaments :
Severe dislocation/nerve damage in young athlete - - Posted by spacewrm (spacewrm), 13 August 2003
I'm a 20 year old martial artist and former track athlete who just suffered a knee dislocation in which my ACL, PCL, and LCL were completely torn, and my peroneal nerve was damaged, causing me to have numbess in my lower leg and foot and lose control over lateral movement of my foot. I just had surgery repairing the lcl and my pcl regrew while i was in an external fixator, although it regrew somewhat lax, which is to be expected. My ACL is scheduled to get repaired in a few months. I am planning to go into law enforcement, but am afraid my injury will cause a great deal of problems later. Is anyone visiting this site around my age who can give advice or recommendeations on how to deal or recovery advice? Anyone who has had somthing like this happen to them?

Welcome to the knee board. A knee dislocation with multi-ligament tear takes a long time to recover maximum function but with patience and a good surgeon and attention to rehab you can get a very reasonable result.
some of y our function might depend on how much nerve damage there is and whether you are slowly getting feeling and power back in your foot?
I'm going to move your posting to the cruciate ligament section where there might be more people who have had similar types of injuries - hopefully you will find some support there

Hey there
Welcome to the board, although I am very sorry you have to be here
I am also 20 years old and pre accident was a very active person.
I had a very bad car accident 2 years ago in which I tore my acl pcl and mcl also dislocating my kneecap, I have had 5 knee surgeries to try and correct this, the problem is after so long my ligament become lax. They have already been replaced twice.
I went through major depression because of this, I mean when you are 20 years old and soon to be 21 these are supposed to be the best years of your life and instead you are laid up in bed! I am still battling some form of depression and self pity, but with help from anti depressants and pain pills I feel as though I just might survive
I don't know what to tell you other than just let you know that I am here pretty much all the time, and will talk to you anytime you need me, sometimes it helps more just knowing we have somebody who is going through the same things we are!
My last surgery was 3 months ago, so I am still recovering from that, they replaced all my ligaments again and reconstructed my kneecap and tendons!
Please if you need anything I am here!
Love,Jennie
