Meniscus :
Yea for Therapy! - - Posted by sivyaleah (sivyaleah), 21 November 2004
I am 2 weeks post-op (medial meniscus removal - but not entire). I've only been to 2 therapy appointments so far (sheduled for 12 sessions) but I already see a big improvement. And I'm actually enjoying the experience. Ultrasound, massage, "traction" (where the therapist gently pulls the leg straight), icing, exercises (including riding a stationary bike, I was stunned I was able to do this actually) and helpful discussions as well. I'm highly motivated to continue treatment, unlike when I had a severe ankle injury a few years back. I think it is because I'm seeing such quick results and I also am going somewhere very close to my office. The proximity to work makes it easy to get to during my lunch hour. Today I'm almost working normally, very encouraging!
How's everyone else doing w/their post-op experience?

Hi Laurie,
It is great to hear you are doing so well and feeling positive !! I believe tis makes a huge difference in how we feel and heal. I am also a little over 2 weeks post - op for the same surgery. I have had a little bit of a bumpy road to recovery these past two weeks ( read my post on here ) but, I agree with you and therapy is going great too plus I have the same therapist I had before and I like her alot
I don't get massage though
I'll have to ask for that now ... lol ! I do have a infection in one of my little holes in my knee ... when she took out the stitches it wasn't closed al the way so, now I'm on an antibiotic ... hopefully that will work. I feel like I am getting back to normal but, I overdid the walking yesterday and today and feel pretty sore ... guess thats what happens when you don't know how to drive ... oh, well
I hope this healing process goes well but, I found out I have a partial tear in my ACL
So, I'm not sure how I will feel when this is healed ... though I would be back to running and skatin with my daughter now, I will take it one day at a time !!
Take care of you knee
Keep us posted and I will do the same ... this is a great board

Hi Michelle, sorry to hear that your incision got infected. I know how terrible that can be. My DH had a triple bypass a few years back, and developed an infection on his leg (where they took one of the vein grafts from). It took quite a while for that to clear up - was very persisitant.
I also feel sorry for you that you don't drive and have to walk everywhere. I can't even imagine how difficult that is. Just the thought of having to walk more than I'm able to makes me quesy LOL. On that note tho - get this. A women I work with just had her baby over the weekend. She actually asked ME if I thought I'd be able to deposit her paycheck for her - in a bank that only has 2 branches in NYC and neither is close to our office (I do the payroll). I pretty much laughed at her - I couldn't believe she had the nerve to ask me this since she knows my condition (we have a very very small office, only 7 of us). And believe it or not, she was far more active in her pregnancy than I've been able to be the same amount of time. Let alone I don't even like her, so I wouldn't be inclined to be generous to her anyway. I said I'd mail it to her, she'd have it in a day or 2 anyway.
People! And I digress!
Hope you are now feeling a bit better and that the antibiotics have kicked in full force!

Michelle,
I have one incision (post arthroscopy for ACL repair) that is infected as well. Blech!
What antibiotic were you put on and how long did the healing process take?
I won't be able to see my own OS until thursday, but I went in to see a couple of other OSs in the same clinic on monday. I wasn't given an antibiotic as they wanted to watch it for awhile (One OS wasn't sure if she should prescribe an antibiotic and the other was against it because it might mask a systemic infection).
In the end I was given a frequent dressing change protocol and told to come in for follow up in a couple of days.
Any advice you have would be appreciated!
Sincerely,
Nesanet
