Maybe this should go under general questions. I've posted a few times about my problem. I've been trying to find info on BTKR on someone who's had bilateral patellectomy. I've seen numerous OS's who say I'm too young, and one who said it could make me worse. I don't know how much worse I can be. I'm 42, on major narcotics, and near wheelchair anyway. I see a new OS next friday who knows my history and has sent me paperwork on TKR as if he's thinking about doing it. I haven't had much luck finding information on this as most people have patellectomy after accidents. Mine just wouldn't stop dislocating. My bilateral patellectomy was 22 yrs ago. 3-4 years ago was when the pain really started. I've been on meds ever since. So what if the new OS wants to do the BTKR? After I've seen several that won't do it, what should I think of someone that will? I'm very nervous, but at the end of my rope. I have a 9yr old and work full time. I have to be able to function. I'm not expecting to be able to do anything except walk (even with a limp), get off these strong narcotics, and hopefully lessen this pain. Could a BTKR really put me worse condition? I can't imagine.

Hi there
I have had bilateral patellectomies and this was because they would dislocate medially ort laterally at wwill and I have no femoral groove and have had multiple operations to keep me mobile.I use a wheelcahir or crutches to mobilise. Having the pateelectomies limited my later options and the chance of tkr.
I have had ten years of waiting to get stabile knees which I now have but I have alot of pain and limited mobility. I have the chance of a kind of knee replacement in that they replace the front of the knee to stop the constant rubbing of the bones by the tendon grafts I now have.
I am not having this proceduredone yet until my pain settles down from my last op and the procedure is still experimental so they want to wait until its been aropund a bit more because I have had multiple failed procedures.
I too have two girls and have found life very hard I drive with hand controls now but life is better my surgeon has researched and worked hard to find a solution for me as I have multiple reasons for my condition which he hasnt seen in others .
How did your problems begin.
You are not alone if you want to chat or want my email just im me and I promise to get back to you.
