Cruciate ligaments :

whats everyone's lengh of time before pain is gone - - Posted by BBall12 (BBall12), 9 January 2005

Hi,
I had an acl recon on my left knee using my petella tendon back in dec. 23 2003.
And a clean up on 7/15/04.
I am playing basketball again but have pain and soreness.  So i was wondering how long did it take after everyone's acl recon before you could play sports or do activities pain/ soreness free.
My main issue has to do with pain an soreness when doing squats for example. Or walking down stairs, or of course playing basketball.

Do any of you acl guys or gals have any of these problems a year after the surgery?

If all goes well with ACL reconstruction, I've been told numerous times that return to full level of activity including sports is 1 year post op.

I had complications from my original surgery (recurrent scar tissue/arthrofibrosis) and  just recently had my 3rd operation.  I'm still hoping that eventually I will return to skiing, but I'm at least another year away from that.

Some symptoms of scar tissue - pain/swelling in the knee after use, lack of full ROM and very common - inability to climb DOWN stairs.  Check the soft tissue healing section of this web site for further info on scar tissue and especially the posts of Heather M who has suffered more from scar tissue and knows more about the demon then most anybody.

Good luck,
Pam

I am at five weeks post op from auto-patellar. The only real pain issues occur during PT and a dull ache sometimes at night.

I wish I could help you but I'm afraid you're the most 'senior' of the people who regularly post in this section so it's going to be hard to get your hands on good data.
