Distal patellar realignment-Outpatient? - - Posted by epowers (epowers), 6 May 2004
Has anyone had patellar realignment with tibial tubercle done as an outpatient? MY OS said that his patients generally go home same day.

I'm headed in for that a week from tomorrow, but my doctor has all his patients stay in the hospital over-night. The hospital people told me though that since it's like a 23 hour stay that it's "technically" called out-patient.

Hi,
My TTT was also technically an 'outpatient' surgery. I had the surgery and then was kept for a 24 hr. observation. I have heard of some folks who have gone home the same day. I'm glad I didn't have to do it that way. When is your surgery? If you have any questions, just ask. Best wishes to you,

Hey there-
My first TTT was done as an outpatient, but my other 3 have all been inpatient and I have stayed for at least 2 days for all of them.
The outpatient one was pretty rough and I ended up in the ER from a reaction to my pain meds and also severe swelling.
Hope it works out for you.
Hugs-

I had a TTT on my left knee back in 1996. The doctor was going to try to do just a LR, but said if it wasn't good enough that he would do a TTT as well. I was told that if I had the TTT I would stay overnight in the hospital. I wound up needing the TTT.
Between the epidural, the demerol they pushed to my IV in recovery, as well as the percocets they gave me, I was feeling FINE : ) I insisted that there was no reason for me to stay overnight. I must have been pretty stubborn, cause they let me go. Once the drugs wore off, boy was I sorry. If I had to do it over again (and I just might on the other knee), I will definitely do it as an inpatient.
Good luck!

Had my L one inpatient, want to have my R one done outpatient. OS keeps TTTers in for 2 nights normallly, but I'm special
! He wanted to do the 1st outpatient but changed his mind and said I had to stay in 1 night for pain control. Haven't had much pain though...

Thank you all for the feedback. It really has given me some perspective on what to expect. I have not scheduled my surgery yet but feel that I can make a more informed decision based on the information I have received here. Thank You.

I had my TTO as outpatient... pretty much my choice, I was ready to leave, and they didn't try to convince me otherwise. I was out of surgery around 2:30... I think... and was home by 8.
A little tip if you are going to be outpatient... make sure they give you painkillers right ebfore you leave, or have your prescription filled before hand... something. I hadn't had painkillers since the morphine in my IV... it is about an hour home, and the pharmacy somehow was backed up and it took way longer than normal to get my painkillers... yeah, that doesn't feel good.
