Hey Dave,
Thanks for that link--besides showing a procedure, I think the article did a nice job of showing the real quality of life issues from knee damage.

Good job! I hope that they can do this in the UK.
I like how you manage to use the CPM and also type on your laptop!
Wishing you a speedy and healthy recovery.
Take care
Lots of love

Well, I'm now 4 weeks post op and still in a NWB status. With having two defect areas, the protocol for my PT will be somewhat longer than the norm. I'm hpoing to at least start PT soon. And the reported who did the story on my knee, welllllll since she's an avid marathoner, I challenger her to a short "jingle bell" type race this Christmas. They're usually only 2-3 miles and my OS (also a distance runner) actually agreed to let me hobble...or walk fast, but no long stride running yet. Still the reporter plans on doing a follow up piece around the 6 month and 12 month mark. Should be fun...well, at least more fun that sitting here in my CPM vegitating...

Hi Dave,
That was an interesting story. Keep us posted on your progress. I too have a defect which I was supposed to have an OATS procedure on or possible a ACI procedure. I've already had the cells harvested but they are on hold. I've had 2 microfractures to try the fix the defect but they did not work. How large was your defect before the surgery?
You look just fine. Your not heavy! Good luck at PT and with the rest of your recovery.

Donna, My decects(s), yes defects, were rather large and on opposing sides. And while I appreciate your nice comments, I feel overweight...out of shape...and mentally in a funk from this rehab process. Still, after the 12-18 month rehab is over, I'll be back doing marathons...

i found the clip fascinating and insightful. i had cell harvested on april 28 and am awaiting a date for implanting. i was a triathlete at one time, but my knee issue is because of accident. i hope to run again, but only this time with my kids in the yard and i will be happy. i was on a cpm after the harvesting as i had additional procedures done and i actually was able to sleep with my leg in it. i wish you the best in your recovery and maybe you can help with ideas on curing boredom, as i have encountered endless hours already and know there are more on the way.

Neil, Good luck with part II of the procedure. And as you already know the worst part, the sheer, endless hours of boredom, the rest will be easy. I had two defects and now that I've obtained the complete video of the procedure, I have a much better understanding on the problems with my defects. I'm still in a NWB status and have yet to start PT, but I was able to ambulate (hobble) back to work after two weeks and drive after three. I'm staying off the pain meds as I'm rather expecting their need to arise as I go back WB. If you have any questions about what to expect....just ask.
