Unispacer vs. osteotomy? - - Posted by jbmarcus (jbmarcus), 26 January 2003

Can anyone tell me if having the Unispacer implant is more or less involved than having an osteotomy? Is one more radical than the other?

Check out other's comments on the unispacer before you consider it if I were you. I hear 95% negative about it. there are a couple threads here about them.

You may be told that a unispacer is great but it has many drawbacks.  It can dislodge posteriorly and you may need more surgery.  If you think about it an osteotmy is more invasive but it probable will achieve better long term results.  Do internet searches on both.  Centerpulse orthopedics makes the unispacer and sells it as a god send.  As I stated they sell it.
Do internet searches on: unispacer and then on high tibial osteotomy or whatever your procedure is.  You could also go to the library but there will probably not be anything on the unispacer because it is so new.  This can be another reason that throws up a red flag about the uni.  It has not been around long enough to have the research that it needs to be deemed a prudent and safe alternative.  I would wait ten years before I tryed it.  Probable to late for you.
