Bone breaks around the knee :
HELP ME- BAD Knee Problems, i'm only 15! - - Posted by chris941 (chris941), 14 December 2004
Hello all, my name is Chris. I recently broke my petella. I'm only 15 years old, but i've already torn my ACL in my other knee playing football in 8th grade, and now i've broken this knee as a sophmore while wrestling. I really need some help. The doctor has said nothing about surgery, i've been in a full leg cast for 6-weeks, coming off next week and I really don't want to go through surgery. Do you all know what he might say? It was a very very small chip off the front of the patella, in fact, the doctors at the ER saw the x-ray, saw nothing, and sent me home in a knee mobilizer. Next day, we went in to my doctor, and he told me I had a very small chip, and I needed to be casted for 6/7 weeks. When it happened, the knee dislocated and popped back in on it's own immediately. I am very worried about any torn ligaments, do you think there are any I should worry about? I can completely walk on the knee, and have been for 4 weeks, while in the cast, with no pain whatsoever. Please get back to me, I get my license in about 20 days and want to be ready to drive!! Will I ever be able to wrestle or play football at a hard and fast pace again?! Does anyone know what I should do because I am quite frankly becoming very depressed. Should highschool be a fun stage in life? Please send back info, it will be very much appreciated. Thanks guys.

I'm not a broken knee guy, but with the ability to walk fine at the moment with no pain, I think you'll do just fine. You make have to work on your rom, after getting out of the splint/cast. Take it easy on the gas when you get that driver's license...lol

i went to the doctor today and got the cast off. The doctor said i could put a little weight on it and even bend it slightly. As i got off the table, i stood there, then lightly touched my toes to the ground, the knee snapped, and all the muscles tightened, and it was completely bent until we pulled it back. it was EXTREMELY PAINFUL. My face went white and i nearly passed out. I cannot put weight on it, and i am in a knee immobilizer and feel like if i try to bend it again, i will go through that pain again. Will it happen again? has this happened to other people? the doctors told me it's not exactly unusual but it will be a very long long process of physical therapy and it will be very painful so they gave me vicodin. I just got home and my knee is elevated in the knee immobilizer. has anyone else gone through this? what should i expect in the future?
