The Jonathan Webb Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic occupies a wing of the main hospital.

This 72-bedded hospital handles all kinds of surgery, including cardiac surgery, and has both a high-dependency unit and an intensive care department, making it ideal for the older patient who may need enhanced post-surgery care.

Access is easy from the A4 via the Clifton suspension bridge over the Avon river, from the M5 via the Downs or from the M32 and M4 via the city overpass. There is adequate parking and a friendly reception area. There is also plenty accommodation in the area should family wish to stay nearby, and the Downs and zoo are within easy walking distance. A main bus route is close by.

Bristol has always been a maritime city and there is plenty to see on the waterways.

Knee surgeons at the Clinic:

Dr Webb is the Clinic founder. He is a general knee surgeon, but has a special interest in ACL and multi-ligament injuries as well as primary knee replacement using 3-D computer navigation for accurate placement of the prosthesis. His colleague, Dr Jonathan Eldridge, is a 'lower limb' surgeon, and has a particular interest in the patello-femoral joint, and his expertise includes trochleoplasty and trochlear re-surfacing.

The reception staff are friendly. The hospital has pleasant, though somewhat small, waiting areas, and coffee and snacks are available. Full X-ray and imaging facilities are available on site. English is the main language spoken and there are no special arrangements for international patients but the airport is not far by car and arriving by plane would cause no particular problem.

Consulting rooms are basic. There are four operating theatres, and two other smaller theatres for minor procedures. Two medical officers are resident in the hospital 24 hours a day to handle emergencies.

The bedrooms are basic, but pleasantly-furnished, with in-room TV.

There is a dedicated customer service provider, who deals with self-pay patients.

The rehab unit is small but well-equipped and is managed by Geoff Clark who joined the clinic from Australia. He ran his own physiotherapy practice in Australia for nine years, and played rugby for Australia schools and Queensland under 21s. Geoff has considerable experience of treating elite players including Australian national rugby players, and UK premiership team members. Along with his practice work he has also been a regular lecturer for the Australian Sports Medicine Federation and has spoken at the British Institute of Musculoskeletal Medicine. Geoff also works for part of his time at Gloucester Rugby Football Club.
