clicking sounds from my knee
« on: December 31, 2004, 10:33:10 PM »
Hi all,

Had my LCL snapped amongst other things in a Motorcycle accident some months ago. Rehab has been good and my knee seems pretty stable touch wood. One thing I'm finding (moreso than ever before) is that my knee clicks a hell of a lot when moving it normally etc... friends say it sounds gross  :o :o

Does anyone know whats causing this clicking and is it doing any harm because my consultant says its nothing to worry about.

Comments appreciated

Frank

My PT says the clicking is caused by the patella not tracking correctly, but that if it doesn't cause any pain not to worry about it.

hi,

so tracking relates to the movement of the patella. What is the patella?

Patella is the kneecap. It rides in a groove running down between the two lumps at the end of the femur (condyles). A rough laymans analogy could be a monorail riding on its track. The patella being pulled off track or pressured the wrong way slightly causes the cracking sounds :)

Hey There :) My knee clicks alot especially when i straighten it. I asked my Orthapaedic Surgeon about it and he said it is caused by some roughage on the back of my patella caused from an accident i had. Mind you i am also hypermobile and my knees don't track properly so maybe that's where the problem lies?
Goodluck :)

My knee cracks after sitting for a while, and then I got to straighten it. Im not sure why, my PT says its my kneecap but Im not sure. they also crack when I go to do a squat, but most peoples kneed do it then anyways..
