Born With Hyper-extended Knees?
« on: May 09, 2018, 03:04:48 PM »
Hey all,

In December I had surgery on my right knee's mpfl after a freak tennis injury (my patella dislocated after going for a forehand and tore my mpfl). All my surgeon said was that I likely just was pre-disposed to the injury. During PT, my therapist noticed that my left knee (the good one that I've never inured) hyper-extends. He said it was nothing to worry about, but it has me thinking. Could the hyper-extension in my right knee have lead to me tearing my mpfl? I've always been able to hyper-extend my knee. Does this mean I should be extra cautious with my left knee and what can I do to fix it?

Thanks

Hi, am I right in thinking your knees are hyper mobile? Therefore susceptible to injury?

Hey there,

Most knees have natural hyper-extension. It's completely normal. Google it.
If your other knee has natural HE then that's normal for you.

I think I've got the same? My left knee constantly pops out of place and the patella loves to dislocate for a few seconds if I so much as turn my leg to bend. Been through so much physical therapy it's insane. Be glad for advice as well since my knee doctor doesn't seem bothered?
