Lateral bucket handle repair question
« on: March 06, 2018, 02:52:08 AM »
Hello!

I am 10 weeks post op from a lateral bucket handle tear of the posterior horn that had flipped.  My knee was locked and very painful.  For years my knee felt like it was going to catch or get stuck and I would quickly straighten my leg to keep it from happening and it was always my biggest fear.

I have had the same feeling since about a week after surgery. It feels like it is starting to catch when I bend it and get stuck again.  I am still on crutches and weight bear about 40%. I cannot bend it past 130 degrees without intense pain on the lateral and also backside of my knee along with the catching feeling.

I'm just curious if this sounds normal and if others have had a similar experience.  I really thought I'd be back on my feet by now.  Thank you in advance for any replies.

Being on crutches >10 weeks seems long to be for this type of surgery. Did you check with a fysio?
Any damage to the cartilage - this can cause a catchy feeling as well.

Thank you for your reply.  The physical therapist actually suggested to the doctor that we stop because he thinks there might be something mechanical going on inside my knee.  I see the doctor on March 14 but that seems like a million years from now.  I'm generally pretty patient but not when it comes to this.  Especially because I am in pain and so afraid it's going to lock on me again.

Thank you again for your reply.

haha...  take it easy. A met a person who continued doing PT for over 6 mths while in fact surgery was required to fix a ligament. Due to the intense PT he damaged his cartilage... and is now worse of.

I hope some advice or a MRI scan will give you comfort.

Your poor friend!  I'm glad my PT suggested we stop :).

The doctor's office called last night to let me know they have scheduled an MRI.  I'm hopeful we will get to the bottom of this.

Thanks again for your replies and support.

Linda
