Please help im 5 days post open knee surgery
« on: February 05, 2018, 07:40:24 AM »
Hi there,
Last weds 31st of January i had an open lateral release with a open lateral patella facetecomy.
I stayed in hospital 2 nights. Anyway my main question atm is i cant raise my leg at all. I havent started physio yet and wont for a weekish. They removed about 2cm of the patella. I can weightbare and walk slowly with crutches. Just after any info regarding open knee surgery recoveries as opposed to arthroscopic which ive had 2 of in the last 10mths.

Hi,

Can I ask what was your diagnosis? Sounds like your quads are inhibited, very common after surgery.  Can you feel if your quads activate when you try to raise the leg?
RK sharp pain while running, diagnosis chondromalacia patellae 6/09
RK arthroscopic chondroplasty 9/09
RK rehab, recovery, 90% normal, started running again -> back to square one 5/15
RK diagnosis patellofemoral arthritis + LK diagnosis chondromalacia patellae 8/15 -> conservative treatment

Thanks for your reply. 4th grade chondral ulceration on the lateral side of patella. I had a clean up last year and a lateral release then too but all it seemed to do was irritate my arthritis so my surgeon offered to remove toe lateral facet which was rubbing, causing all the pain. Im 35 so too young for a new year. Can feel much really when i try. Strangest sensation.

I understand. Well let's hope this procedure does help! Have you consulted your doc about these problems raising your leg?
