Slight gait issues 20 months post op meniscus root repair
« on: January 11, 2018, 06:16:01 PM »
Hello all. About 20 months ago I had surgery on my right leg to sew a bucket handle meniscus tear as well as a root repair. I had previously had meniscus surgery on the same knee that removed a small part of the meniscus.  Now, almost 20 months later, I still have slight issues with my gait. It is very subtle, and does not really effect my quality of life, but I was wondering if anything can be done. It feels like my foot has a slight adduction, pointing inward ever so slightly. Perhaps a bit of supination too. It is hard to describe because it feels so subtle. I did PT after the surgery, but probably not as committed as I could have been. I was wondering if it could be the root repair? When I asked if he sewed it back to the same place he said he put it where it could be secured. In addition, after the surgery I had some numbness below my knee in my shin. It has gotten a bit better but there is still some numbness now. I was thinking perhaps this could contribute to my gait issue if there was some nerve damage. I am going to start
exercising again to try to fix it. Would a gait analysis help me at all? Could it be scar tissue? I also have some knee cap issues, it seem to click into place from time to time. But, no pain and no range of motion issues. Perhaps I just still need to strengthen everything. I think a heel wedge might help for now. Thanks all.

After trying to analyze the problem, now I am thinking the surgery knee never got back to as full extension as my other knee. My good leg seems to have a bit of hyperextension that my surgery knee doesn't have as much as. I wonder if it would be possible to regain that last bit of ROM so far after surgery? Now that I think of it, I loosened the brace a few days after surgery to put a very slight bend in my knee because keeping it a full extension was painful. Maybe that did it :(. Could a podiatrist help me with these things?
