ACLr failed... 12 years on
« on: December 07, 2017, 01:07:06 PM »
First Iíll say hi..
And if anyone has information on living with no acl or available revision surgery..?
Snapped my acl 12 years back and it has probably took a few hits as Iím an active 46 year old.. itís been feeling swollen and clicky last two months had an mri and yup acl reconstruction has blown... Iím sat here devastated... my knee is fairly stable ...
Iím about to start looking at braces and exercise... any tips greatly appreciated 👍🏻

If going for a revision, find a surgeon expert in revisions

What country are you in? Thereís a specialist database linked at the top of the page

The search function should throw up hits on revision
and also copers. Depends on how active you plan to be and in what sport/activity

See a knee specialist Sports Physio to get a prehab or rehab programs, will advise on bracing too, including custom versions

Is there also arthritis or meniscus issues in the knee which often follow ACL issues?

Good luck

Thanks for the reply...
Yes I'm struggling to find many revision Drs in the uk!..
I'll keep on... I do have a meniscus tear I guess it would be up to the doc if to do it.
But no other issues with my knee atm...

Where are you in the UK? NHS or private healthcare? Have you seen a surgeon already? You could get a private consult with a surgeon who also does NHS, discuss the options and if you decide on surgery, get referred to NHS list . Could be a 6-12 month wait though from what Iíve read regarding NHS non urgent elective orthopaedics

Get yourself a good private Sports Physio sorted in the meantime

There are expert ACL/revision surgeons mostly in London area but most are now private only and I guess youíll be looking at around 8-10k or more if self paying

Thanks so much for the reply! :)
Yeah after a week of staring down the hole Iím back actively hunting down how to get this sorted!!
Yes Iím in the uk in the midlands... Iíve seen my gp last Friday and had the results to show him from my private mri.. he has referred me to the surgeon who performed my reconstruction way back to see if he can help with finding out who does revision surgery..
In the meantime Iíve got a donjoy brace and an appointment for a physio this morning... thanks again for the reply...

Good luck

You may find your previous surgeon does revisions if he's a knee specialist who does lots of ACLs

Check out his CV, private hospital websites where he practices a good place to start, if he doesn't have his own website
