Meniscus tear and Bone Bruise Questions.
« on: September 14, 2017, 03:36:39 pm »
Aloha,
Has anyone out there had an MRI that showed a tear, (according to the Dr. that read it wear it was preformed). Went to the specialist who told me he saw NO tear, but that I had a Bone Bruise? Can't run, and I am elevating it, icing, and wear a knee sleeve. Does this sound familiar to anyone? My PCP recommends PT. What do you think?
Aloha,
Sue

I would go the conservative route for a while. Meniscus repair operations have very mixed outcomes. Let us know.

Aloha,
Now after three opinions I am more confused then ever! My appointment Wednesday with an Orthopedic Surgeon said I have "good Knees". He said he could do arthroscopic surgery? One replace my knee, one basically said I didn't have a Meniscus tear, and the last one arthroscopic. Any one gone through this nightmare?
Thank you!
Sue

Why does he think youíll benefit from surgery? What is he planning to do? Does he think you have a tear?
Which one do you trust most? Which was most credible?

If you do go the surgery route, even keyhole, expect 3+ months to recover and rehab. Itís also not a risk free panacea. You could even end up worse off

When was the injury? Bone bruises can take 6-12 months of relative rest to resolve
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
2nd scope on 16/12/10
RK arthroscopy on 5/2/15
Lateral meniscus trim, excision of hoffa's fat pad, chondral stabilisation
More tears and wear, scope planned in Jan 2019 to tidy up

Aloha,
The Orthopedic Surgeon wanted to go in and trim the meniscus. He was Very Vague! I opted to Not do it. The Horrible pain on the lateral side of my left knee has virtually stopped. Except occasional stabs. The knee itself is still painful, but nothing like it was. I can feel the pain after walking or doing anything short of sitting. However the side pain is 80% better! It has been six months now. I miss running, but very glad I did NOT have any surgeries.
Thank you!
Happy Healthy New Year All!
