Femal derotation osteotomy
« on: March 31, 2017, 04:39:10 AM »
I am a 47 year old male who has been prescribed a femal derotation osteotomy for my L hip by Dr. Buly at HSS in NYC.

I would like to get a second option and would like to know what other doctors in the country are renowned for femal derotation osteotomy.

Dr. John Clohisy at Washington Univ and Dr. ira Zaltz in Detroit has been mentioned.

Any help with recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hi There,

You have posted on the wrong section and is a knee related discussion forum and have already recommended to Sheila Owner and Founder of KneeGuru to add a hip section. This might be done once the Bulletin Board has been upgraded on Monday 3rd April 2017. Often knee problems can lead to hip problems and vice versa. This is why many OSís can operate on both joints as the mechanics and surgical procedures are very similar.

There are no other online discussion forums about hip problems that goes into detail as KneeGuru does with knee problems. It would be nice to discuss one anotherís hip problems by having a hip section on KG. I have had chronic right knee problem since 2003 with two scopes and 5 cortisone injections that now had a negative impact on my right hip. This is often the case for patients that have knee problems that it puts strain onto the hip or vice versa.

Do you suffer from hip dysplasia with your hip socket joint coming out of itís socket or is it wear and tear due to the hip joint being at the wrong angle. Femal Derotation Osteotomy of the hip sounds similar to realignment of the knee if it is not tracking correctly, the same most applies to the hip joint. Slowing down the wear and tear prolonging a total hip replacement being done too soon at a young age.

I am having an x-ray guided cortisone injection on Tuesday into my right hip after the MRI showed up a small labrum tear, hip impingement, joint effusion and bilateral cam lesions. Hopefully the cortisone injection will ease the pain and discomfort not just in the hip but also the right knee. If it does not ease the right knee pain a 3rd scope will be scheduled in the late summer early autumn.

Have you had cortisone injections in your left hip, if you have was it helpful in anyway, or did not make any difference to your hip pain and discomfort. It can work well for some patients and not so well for others. Cortisone injections into the knee pose similar problems and complications with the hip joint.

Might get more replies in the general posting section of the bulletin board, I am sure Sheila will move your post over at some point. Good luck getting a 2nd opinion before having surgery. I live in the UK so cannot give you advice on who you should be seeing in the States, maybe another member can suggest a good OS with a good reputation on hip problems.

thank you for your feedback.  I am not well versed in this site and don't know exactly where to post my question.

4 years ago I went for a run and had anterior hip post run.  MRI showed small labrum but with multiple intra articular injects which none gave any relief I was sent of to the back doctors thinking that it was referred pain from the back.  After much time spend working on my pre existing lower back pain I have concluded the hip pain a separate issue and than maybe the hip pain is even aggravating the lower back issues.

Another hip doctor noticed I have a cam impingement and said that was my issue.  I then went fly to NYC to see one of America's best on labrum and impingement repairs to get his option.  He discover the femoral anti version (femur rotates inward) and referred me to a specialist for this.  So I have been diagnosed with femoral ante version and the surgery to repair it but its still a mystery why I have no relief (even brief relief) from the injections.  So before I sign up for surgery I would like to get a second option.  I am afraid to get the surgery if the ante version is really not the issue that is causing my hip pain.

I will you luck with you injection and hope it helps

Hi There,

To cause less confusion I have asked Sheila the owner of KG to put your post onto the general section. I see you have already reposted in this section but without any replies. At least on this topic of discussion got a conversation going with me. (Can delete post in general section once this post has been moved over)

I cannot advise you which OS you should see for a 2nd opinion before going ahead with femal derotation osteotomy for your left hip. I live in the UK so only know ones that are local to me with a good reputation. Google hip surgeons in your region looking at the patientís feedback and star ratings are the only thing I can suggest.

Injection went well thanks, cannot say if it helped or not as it can take a few days for the injected area to calm down again where the needle was inserted around the groin region where there is a red spot from needle.
