:( Articular Cartilage Injury recovery time??? :(
« on: October 31, 2012, 12:50:29 PM »
Hello, on July 4th. Came down the steps with a bang after watching fireworks. Landed right on my right knee. Thought wasn't too bad till about to aboard from plane home from Usa. Barely walks, nicely 8 hour flight, knee locks etc 8th July finally got to a&e - soft tissue damage. Come back if any problems. Well I went back had MRI. Got told it was wear & tear, broken fragments, Arthritis, Torn cartilage. Had physio leading up to op. If you call it physio non-excisting. Finally op day came bare in mind still using crutches. Had Arthroscopy and debridement, bandage up well. 2 days later took miles of bandage off to reveal two tiny plasters. Stitches came over 10 days later. From the surgery even at this point none wiser what was found. In alot of pain worse than before the op. Turned out I worn down some of my articular cartilage nothing else. Pain is severe, currently still taking co-codamol 15mg/500mg 3 times a day to reduce the pain. Just about weight baring now. Still waiting to have intentive physio on it. So what am asking? what the recovery time. As been off work all this time. Doing my head in, work in retail full time. Can't go on the till as makes me dizzy. Just want my life back. Also been told there no more op as more they go in there more damage it will do. Only thing i've gain out of this op so far is clicking and crunching had gone. Only 3 weeks since the op. Should I be walking by now? without crutches? Driving? working? Any advice be great

I was off work for 3 weeks after both my scopes, office job.  No driving for 3 weeks after the first one, 2nd one I could drive once comfortable - automatic, left knee, so about a week, will be different for the right knee, you need to be comfortable making an emergency stop

I used the crutches on and off for 3 weeks after the first op (meniscus trim, debridement of kneecap), 2nd op, didn;t need them (wash out, tidy up)

Can you afford to have some private physio?  Are you icing several times a day and doing exercises (heel slides, ankle pumps, leg raises)?  Ice, always wrap the ice pack in a tea towel and never more than 15 minutes at a time

3 weeks after any surgery is very small - don't be fooled by the small holes, your knee has had a trauma during that operation

If you are worried, see the surgeon or at the very least, your GP.

Good luck :)
Came off bike onto concrete 9/9/09
LK arthroscopy 8/2/10
Partial meniscectomy, mfx not needed - smooth scar tissue over OC lesion, shaving of lateral aspect of patella - grade III defect
2nd scope on 16/12/10, chondroplasty & Durolane jab
Cartilage damage on femur & tibia
Knee being ignored ;-)
