Hi,

I was given the go ahead to get walking on my leg (13 weeks post TPF op) and in typical fashion for me, the pain in the knee is far less than that of the foot.

I have heel pain, which I would expect as it has taken no pressure for some time, however the worst pain is in the very top of the foot, on top of the tarsal/metatarsals.... so this would be pain in the tendons I expect.

This pain only occurs when trying to flex the foot to propel into the next step of walking. It is so bad that I cannot begin to use my calf in walking.

Has anyone else had anything like this?

Many thanks in advance for any and all advice.

James

I did  ( and still to a small extent do) have these pains. Started  working with ankle pumps, then hiking (flat footed mostly), then toe raises.
It took a long time to acclimate, but it's still not "normal". Is suppose this in my new normal. But I keep working on it and it SLOWLY gets better.
It has been 2 years since TPF. Keep working on it.

My foot was absoluetly agonising when I came off crutches in exactly the way you describe. It got better, it took about a week for the worst of the pain to subside.

I've been to see a podiatric specialist about this.

MRI and xrays have shown rather a lot of bone weakening in the foot due to lack of use. In his opinion this is causing the diffuse but severe pain in the metatarsal area.
"pre-stress fracturing" is what he called it... had never heard of that before.

I have to wear a non-flexible boot for a few weeks to avoid stressing the Metatarsals after which this should clear up.
