Hi All,
I was hoping someone would be able to shed some light on my knee problem. During my late teens through to early thirties my left knee would lock perhaps twice maybe three times a year. When I was in my early teens I was seeing a specialist for knee pain behind the patella and was referred for physio and later discharged. My knee locking episodes happened a few years later and I never bothered to go to the Doctor as I thought it was part and parcel of my old problems. In hindsight I should have gone back to the Doctors.
After a 'break' of approx 7 years it locked recently when I turned over in bed. When my knee locks the pain is excruciating. The pain is always on the outside of the knee and it genuinely feels like bone-on-bone (I know it can't be but that's how bad the pain feels), the 'muscles' at the back of the knee go rigid too. I can bend my knee back towards me with no pain but am unable to straighten it beyond where it has locked without this pain. A lot of hot cloths, courage and m/metre by m/metre movements over about 1 1/2hrs and the rigid 'muscles' at the back of the knee feel like they 'come apart'. The relief is instant and I can move my knee again. Apart from being a little stiff for a couple of days I get no swelling or bruising. On this occasion though I had to call the Paramedics as I couldn't move it, it took about 3 hours with Gas and Air and a lovely patient Paramedic as I was unable to move from the bed. An MRI scan has shown nothing so the doctor won't refer me (I can understand why) but it makes me feel like a 'fraud' and it's quite upsetting that I haven't been able to find out what the problem is. Has anyone any ideas?
Many many thanks, Amber 41.
