I was able to go back to yoga last week--- best PT ever, in my opinion!!  Still going to the gym to do bike, elliptical, strength, etc.  hope you're doing well, yoga girl!

Well, I suppose I've taken a bit of a haitus from knee blogging, but I thought I would check in and give an update!

My MPFL surgery was 3 months and 4 days ago!! Seems like forever ago. I'm happy to report things are going great. I have almost complete full ROM back, last time I was measured was a few weeks ago and it was 151, I believe. My other knee goes to 170, so I'm waiting for the day when that full range feels ok :)

My quads are still significantly smaller on my left (surgery) leg though. Thats my biggest dissapointment right now. I thought they would be fully back at this point, but to be honest, I slacked on PT over the holidays quite a bit. So, I'm in the gym as much as I can doing wall squats, leg extensions, hamstring curls, and leg press. Also doing the bike and elliptical.

The only pain I ever feel anymore is under my kneecap, which I never had pre-surgery. The doc says this is because my knee is tracking in a slightly different spot now, and there's likely some decent cartilidge damage there. He said in all his MPFL patients that have described this pain, its gone away with time as it smooths out some. But that it is possible it might never go away. I'm going with the first idea, especially because I think this pain was worse shortly after surgery than it is now.

Anyway, thats it really. I feel good about the surgery, I am definitely more confident in my knee than I was was leading up to surgery (following a dislocation). I am still pretty catious of the knee though, as my quads feel not up to par still. Last thing I need is to spaz out and fall on it or something!

Oh, one last thing that's weird is the lack of sensation I still have in areas on the knee. I can't really pinpoint it, its just that when I have tried to lightly kneel, it feels so odd and not good! haha, hoping those nerves will reconnect properly someday!

Wishing you all the best!  :D

Good to hear from you! I also have the pain under my kneecap, towards the bottom.  My doc said it could be scar tissue that will work itself out...or cartilage damage.

I also have numb areas.  A huge one on my lateral shin this time.  In my previous surgeries the numbness has gone away for the most part, but I always recognise it when shaving.

Keep up the good work!!
