Dislocated knee
« on: October 09, 2012, 03:15:22 PM »
I dislocated my knee 4 weeks ago, took two hospitals to get the immobilisation right, it popped straight back in (which I hear is good). I am
Starting physio next week & work as a Fitness Trainer soi know what I need to do to rehab it. What I don't want to do us make it any worse or do it again by starting hockey again too soon, I have set another 7-11 weeks off which will take me to two games before Christmas or starting end of January, I have had mixed opinions about this and just want to know what to do & if December/january is too soon, is 6 months the normal rehab time and should I just face that I won't play again this season?!

when you say you dislocated your knee - do you mean your kneecap, or the entire knee joint. From the timeline you're stating, it sounds more like the kneecap?

I suspect your plan is based on advice from a doctor/trainer/etc of some sorts? Honestly, thats the best place to gauge when to return to sports. I would think if things rehab/heal correctly, you should be back playing this year. Work with your PT, and don't rush it, rehab it right the first time, and it hopefully won't happen again. Everyone heals differently, and the 'normal' timetable would depend on the severity of dislocation.

Thanks for that. Yeah was the patella not the full knee (double ouch) been to my fracture clinic appointment today allowed out of my splint to get mobility and strength back, physio starts next week.
Doctor was more worried about the 90minute delay in the clinic than giving me any good advice!!
