Hi Babycake!

Where in CA do you live? I live in South Orange County and my physical therapist is familiar with Dr Millett's rehab protocol. I have had made a huge amount of progress working with my therapist.

Let me know if you want his information.

Trinity

yes please! i actually live about an hour and a half from there....(I am in Menifee ... around 30 minutes from Riverside, Ca) I am doing a search to see if I can find any specialists around here that deal with AF. The doctor did a number yestrrday on my knee and it is swollen as bad as if I had had a scope done (he didn't scope it though) and is upset if I can't gain 10* worth of motion on the CPM per day and was yet again giving me a lecture and being really mean in front of the hospital staff yesterday. So embarassing :( I am not being a 'wimp' as he hinted at so frustrating! And the therapist said it is likely I have AF (especially if mymother did) and that there is nothing anyone could do to help me so i need to deal with it now or the doctor will either 1. give me a tkr or 2. give up on me completely  and label me a 'difficult patient' he is unable to help! Can't believe that!

Hi Babycake

Like cbrmedic and Decruz said, go see Dr Eakin. Most of us have traveled very long distances to see an AF expert. I personally have traveled 700miles to see my AF doc. This is an investment you make, in the health and future, of your knee. Cbrmedic recently was treated by Dr Eakin. Other posters named Juneau and Hottubpam, have been treated by him too.

You need to at least go get a consult with him and you will see a great difference between Dr Eakin and your doctor. You will never want to go back to your doctor.

Pam

thank you! I will have to look into him, I am about 500 miles or so from him and just need to see if my insurance will cover the visit. I am not really familiar with my new insurance and am not sure whether or not it would be 'out of network'.  I am desperate to find someone that will not just write me off and be rude. But I am going to give them a call on Monday. :)

Hi Trinity and Babycake

You have to have posted 20 times to be able to send and receive private messages. Babycake can page down to the Games section and play some of those quickie games to get her posts up to 20. As of now , Babycake has 11 posts so far.

Also Babycake, I strongly advise you to not let this doctor do anymore MUAs or anything else, such as a TKR, for that matter, until you can see Dr Eakin. The experts say MUAs should not be done beyond the 2- 3 week period post-op. After that, scar tissue starts to become fiberous and less pliable, then they need to be done with a scope for LOA first then gentleMUA. An MUA causes micro tears to tissues, which causes inflammation to increase in the form of swelling, heat, and pain. Your knee is in a very traumatized condition right now so making gains in flexion will be difficult. You need to ice your knee as much as possible and keep it elevated above your heart. Make sure you do patella mobes many times a day, quad sets, SLRs. Use the protocol I posted a link to.

When you speak to Dr Eakins office, they will probably ask you to send copies of your medical record, such as Dr Notes, op reports, MRI, xrays and any scans.

The poster Juneau, traveled from Alaska to see Dr Eakin.

There is a Dr Jason Dragoo, at Stanford Medical Center/Hospita, near Palo Alto. He did his fellowship under Dr Steadman of Vail and wrote 3 articles on arthrofibrosis. I do not know of anyone seeing him, so we have no feedback for this Dr's experience and success. Here are some of his articles.

Finding a Dr who has experience with arthrofibrosis is very difficult, that's why the list of doctors is so limited. The doctors on that list have been used by forum posters
