POST ACL SURGERY
« on: October 02, 2012, 08:31:09 AM »
Its been 7 days since my ACL surgery. Ive been experiencing swelling and bruising in my calf. Met with my orthopaedic surgeon to take a look at it. OS told me that it wasnt DVT or Compartment Syndrome.

Is it normal to have severe bruising and swelling the the calf after ACL surgery? May I know is there any way to reduce the swelling in my calf as it really hurts.

Hey

I'm pretty sure any bruising of the leg is kinda normal. I had extreme brusing and swelling on my shin. My god it was painful. About the only pain i experienced throughout the whole thing. As long as its not DVT then you're safe!

yes, it is completely normal.  The inside of your ankle may turn black or purple as well.  The best things for swelling are ice and elevation(3 pillows).  Your foot has to be higher than your heart.  Ankle pumps also help with the swelling as well.  It is early days.  It will get better!
