TPF rehab - Knee "Clicking"
« on: September 27, 2012, 08:02:24 PM »
I was in a cast for about 6 weeks (No surgeries was done) due to TPF on my right knee, And i am wearing hinged knee brace. So lately i've been noticing that the area around my knee makes a "click" or "pop" almost everytime when i extend it after letting it idle in a bent position (It feels like something just popped back into place)..
I don't feel pain while it "clicks" just that its a little annoying and don't feel normal :P Anyone know if the "clicking" thing is normal?
I'm able to walk without any assistance and maybe with a very slight limp since my knee and ankle is swollen and the area around my ankle hurts a small bit while i walk :P Any form of information about the annoying "clicking" thing would be much appreciated! :D

Mine does the same, but it doesn't seem to be too much of a problem. It doesn't hurt and it doesn't seem to stop me doing anything.....

This may help put your mind at ease, but if it starts to hurt make sure you let your OS know.

One way to diagnose is by listening to the clicking noise and to identify its type. If the sound is like a pop to a kin sound, then a person has nothing to worry about. This shows that the clicking sound is a result of bubbles released from certain movement or during a period of inactiveness. It is more likely to occur when ascending the stairs, standing up, squatting or sitting for long durations.

I collared my consultant the other week as my knee had just started clicking a lot and I was worried a screw or something might have been working loose (I'm almost 1 year post TPF now) after carefully examining my knee his exacts words were " we're not bothered about intermittent clicking, if it starts hurting when it does it let me know"

So I figured that this is just the way it is now and stopped worrying, I guess after an injury like a TPF it takes a while to work out what your new "normal" is!
Words of wisdom from my consultant "Remember why you're called a patient!"
5/10/11 - Right TPF (grade 6)
10/10/11 - Surgery then CPM machine
13/10/11 - Plaster brace
15/10/11 - Home
27/10/11 - Clips out
24/11/11 - Smaller brace, teeny bit weightbearing!
28/12/11 - Brace gone, wbat
26/04/12 - Work
