McConnell tape...Me or you?
« on: September 14, 2012, 09:30:36 PM »
So I am contemplating going back to PT just to get tape bc I am having instability issues. Has anyone just done it on their own? does it work when you do it yourself? I'm pretty sure I know how to do it.

What are your thoughts?

'Runners' knee > Lateral Release 3/11
Minor Meniscus tear > clip 3/11
Fall on bad knee 1/12
PT 3/12-6/12
MRI > Cartilage missing = Cortisone + PT 5/12
Arthroscopy > cartilage missing, meniscus tear, & misalignment 8/12
Healing....for now 9/12+
instability :/

Yes, I tape myself on a regular basis and overtime I have learned to do a pretty good job.

I do suggest at least one visit with your PT to have them teach you how tape, the tricks, challenges and the best place to buy the tape.

Best of luck!

Thank you, Maverick

I too have taped both patellas on my own to help with tracking.  Bought my supplies through my PT place but am sure you can find online as well.  And I agree that one PT visit to show how to tape would be great (I was taping the opposite of the norm due to my instability issues not being the norm so a verification with PT is a great idea).

thanks guys.

I was also suggested for a TTO. How long has the tape lasted you guys before being unhelpful? I just would rather not have that surgery until completely necessary.

Just saw on your signature on your post that you have been dx w/malalignment.  Unfortunately, I feel the McConnell tape isn't going to do anything as the issues are bigger than what the tape can help with (it may provide a tiny bit of relief but don't think enough to postpone surgery).  At least not in my opinion of someone who's had it all done!
