Anyone have this new oats procedure with Chondrofix?
« on: September 10, 2012, 03:44:06 PM »
Hi All,

Well one of two Allograft Oats plugs failed.  On top of that they found a big blister in my cartilage that is going to rupture - they have to fix that with Allograft. They are suggesting a new trial procedure called Chondrofix.

Has anyone had this? Any information is welcome!

Chondrofix is donor plugs but with all the cells removed.  It's a clinical trial that has been available for about a year . . . .

Yes, I recently had Chondrofix on the lateral femoral condyle (15mm plug). I also had a small lesion on my tibia where they performed MFX and also had about 50% of my meniscus removed. I'm about 10 weeks post op and starting to get my ROM back and transitioning to full weight bearing.  Here is some more information about the procedure.

Because my defect was so large they could not do my chondrofix procedure arthroscopically, so they had to open me up with a incision 4 or 5 inches long.  I had a nerve block, so not much pain after surgery and I also had some help with the pain at home.....(percocet and dilaudid). I was off both percocet and dilaudid after 2 weeks and able to manage the pain with over the counter meds just fine. The real problem has been dealing with the swelling, but that has been getting better each week as well. I'm sure if you have a smaller defect that can be done arthroscopically you will have less pain and recover much faster. Have you scheduled your chondrofix surgery?

Thanks Getsome!  Mine will be an open procedure.  They are fixing two separate defects.  I am in the Chondrofix trial so we are  now waiting on a date which hopefully is the first week in January.  How are you doing?  How long were you non weight bearing?  My surgeon is going for 8 weeks or so.
