Question about meniscus tear
« on: September 10, 2012, 01:53:34 PM »
  Greetings,  :)

Will I always have pain from a meniscus tear? I tore my meniscus and dislocated my knee cap about a year ago hiking with my kids. Yesterday, I was squatting for some time cleaning my deck. Last night my knee kept me awake most of the night and is still really painful today. Will this pain ever go away? I'm not able to squat any more without paying for it later. :(

Thank you in advance for your input.

Hi there,

Sorry to say, if it wasn't just a little tear that healed a couple of months later, its not going to improve.  You already know what provokes it, so if you squat you will end up paying in pain.  With luck, some Motrin, and some ice, you will get through the next few uncomfortable days, but if it doesn't seem to be improving you might have done further damage.  If that is the case, you should consider going in to the doctor and have this checked out.  You have a lot of years to wear that knee and you don't want to spend them in pain.

Good luck :)

Hello

Mine clicked out when squatting too low or kneeling on the floor. I tried rehabbing it for a year and it never got better. In fact the second MRI scan revealed a progressing tear. I then had surgery and no mensicus problem since!

Hope this helps

Thanks for sharing your experience Grapplingdude.

I have an appointment with the Ortho on Friday. I think I may have a new tear or the first tear has progressed. It has now started clicking and is very swollen. The swelling goes down by morning when I wake, but soon swells up after walking on it.  Oh joy. ::)
