Hairline fracture on tibia plateau

For you who knows this "old" girl on kneegeeks you know I have RSD/CRPS in left knee and leg. In May I got stucked with my wheelchair and came down all weight on left leg and broke a bone in my foot and got hairline fracture there. This summer I have had 3 dislocations of my left knee.
Last week I didn't get it back in place and they came sedated me and helped me. My muscles were in spasms.
But decided to not go in as my knee was back tracking as it should.
Days forward and pain and swelling got worse. Found out Wednesday I have hairline fracture in Tibial plateau and some other damages on my femur.
They believe that I could have had this and got worse over Summer and with new incidents.
Right now am stucked in brace that is locked in 45 degrees so I can use my wheelchair. When I'm not up I have my leg in a straight brace.
Go back in 4 weeks for new x-rays to see how it looks.
I can't go the usual route that everyone else do as I'm wheelchair bound due to my RSD/CRPS and due to spinal damage.
What is the outcome of such injury? I know I have poor healing and my skeleton is not the best shape either.
Pain is not easy to work with. My daily pain with RSD is 6 on the scale where 10 is worst pain and 0 is no pain.
I am fortunate to go in for epidural if pain get to high.
If you have any info please share and if you have any questions about me, just ask away. I will continue write my progress here./Nettan

You poor thing!!! I got a hairline fracture of my tibia this year after playing netball. I'm still on crutches after four months. My recovery has been hindered by complex regional pain syndrome in my foot which is stopping me weight bearing and also that the fracture is not healing basically at all. I didn't require surgery which is good but it's a long process.
Good luck with it all .

Like you I have crps in my left knee where my fracture is also. I already have problems with having pain under control. Due to my allergies I can only use morphine. I also have a spinal damage. Hope we can stay in touch and help each other out. So sorry to hear that you still are on crutches and the fracture isn't healing. I am going to call back to my docs tomorrow and will write back again.
Meanwhile take care./Nettan

The last 2 days has been a challenge as pain got up higher and I don't want to be in hospital, which an epidural requires.
The pain has been higher in the evenings when I get spasms on my lateral side of the knee and in at back of knee. Swelling is mostly below the knee but also on top of patella. So we tried some muscle relaxing meds. Yesterday eve I got all spotted on my body and they had to come out give me meds as I had a severe allergy reaction. So those meds are a nono.
So I just somehow have to find another way to get through the evening hours. Usually my pain get better after a couple of hours again.

This morning when I transfered myself from showerchair to wheelchair I slipped a bit and took weight on left leg. I heard a loud crack and started to swell.
I called the hospital and talked with them. As I have appointment tomorrow and have straight brace at home I persuaded them to wait until tomorrow.
I am going in for a block tomorrow, so now they have also scheduled me for a ct scan to see if something has happened.
Sometimes am thinking I would be better without this knee, but also know with rsd/crps is not just to chop of the leg, because of the more severe painproblems that can come after.
So let's see what tomorrow brings. Look forward to have a block and if that will help I will feel so much better and probably will be able move around more.

The fracture has become a bit bigger unfortunately, but due to surgeon there's no worry.
The block did just help for the moment more or less and pain is back nagging again.
So tomorrow we are going for another route, first testing and getting new braces, but also make a removeable cast that I can use when I'm up and about. Hopefully that will ease the pain and make me more moveable.
I'm optimistic. I can't just sit around here for ages and as I live alone I need to be able take care of myself./Nettan

Got removeable cast and 2 new braces. Helps a bit. I use them in different situations and with my RSD it feels good that I can have the variety with different materials and also have my leg in slightly different positions.
Pain is worst in the evenings still. I have managed to change my painmeds a bit so I can use more in the evening.
I have also learnt to plan my days better so I'm able to get the best and most out of my days and not increase my painlevels to much.

Slowly improving now when I have my cast and braces. I can be up more. Also weaning off some of the painmeds as they are giving me "real" nightmares. Who wants to be killed in dreams every night ? Well not me.
Still not been out so much as I can't have my leg bumping around in the wheelchair too much.
Also working on my own on ROM as much as I'm allowed and what my RSD can take.
I feel the importance of being on top of my RSD/CPRS so that doesn't end up worse cause of my injury.
Still the evenings are worst.
I have also been set on meds for my skeleton to avoid further breaks in future.
RSD/CRPS really messes up the body./Nettan

So had mri this week to have a look at how my leg is doing. Hardly any improvement at all. Pain is though better and I have managed to wean off some of the meds.
I know that my RSD/CRPS with the poor bloodflow is going to delay my healing, but I had hoped for some good news.
I still swell when I'm up and about. Even if I'm out more now, often during that time I need to stop and get my leg up somewhere to feel somehow comfortable for a while. Like catching my breathe.

Phys yesterday really knocked me out.
Couldn't do much on left cause of the fracture. Some massage I did get to loosen up a bit and that felt good.
We focused on right knee, where I had surgery for cartilage defect in 2007. That leg has started to become very whiney.
It's not easy to build muscles with my spinal damage, but with some different techniques we are trying.
Also some stretching as this leg has to take care of my left leg when I'm up and about in wheelchair.
But wow did I hurt last night. Almost no sleep. Going to phys again tomorrow........
