Apparently it is so worn out they couldn't obtain a clear image of it on the mri, and it's causing a lot of problems like the large lump I have got on the tibia head, my wife seems to think they are just fobbing me off saying this to look like they are actually gonna do something, because they simply can't give me a replacement at my age because they can't get funding and it just won't last the test of time, I'm a big bloke so it'll wear out to quickly, the surgeon just thinks I'm a interesting case and I've asked my gp for a second opinion and he says I've already had 3 and they all say the same thing, I need a new knee but I ain't gonna get one!

Just curious as to your age and where you live? In the US they'll do it according to pain level. There's absolutely no point in the world in being on disability for 30 years because you can't walk then when you're of retirement age (without having put anything away because you weren't working during your prime years) the give you a new knee. I'd rather have a replacement now and worry about what happens when I'm 70.
Although if you're really young I don't know. Apparently revisions can be bad news. What I learned is that you need a really good surgeon because so much doesn't show up until they open you up then they'll decide what to do.
