No help from dr
« on: August 31, 2012, 03:56:48 AM »
Hi
I suffered a tpf n had surgery almost 15 weeks ago.  I have no idea what level fracture it was.  My family was to,d by the dr. It was one of the worst he had ever seen.  He waited 2 days for the swelling to go down before doing surgery.  We were told that parts of my knee cap were dust.  During the surgery he used a bone type paste to put my knee cap back together n then put a plate n 9 screws kinda caddy cornered across my leg from left going down to right. The injury was to my left leg by the way.
After the recovery room I was in terrible terrible pain , but it was my foot.  The pain was so bad that  my foot was xrayed that night.  We were told it was from the cast.  From the beginning my foot has looked bad.  I called a few days after coming home n was told it was from swelling.  When they took the staples out around 2 wks after surgery they still said swelling n I was told to come back in a month.
My foot continued to look black.  I kept calling.  I was told to go to have a ultra sound to check for a clot.  It showed nothing but my dr. Still didn't look at my leg n foot although I kept telling him something was wrong.  When I went back for my appt n showed his staff they sent him into the room immediately.  He was very flustered n to,d me I had developed RSD n we needed to get my leg moving.  I was sent to therapy n to,d to come back in a month which was the end of July .
When I went to that appt.  the dr told me I had developed RSD.  I said you told me that last time.  He says yes but it is RSD fully.  Talked about doing another surgery in few months for scar tissue & to,d me to take Motrin 800 for pain.  He then told me to come back in 2 mths.
I called over 2 weeks ago & told his staff the blackness was spreading up my leg n I needed to come in and let him look at it.  They told me they would talk to him n call me back.  No call.  Next day same thing.  Third day I told them I was getting pretty upset.  He needed to look at this.  So after 20 mins on hold I was informed I was being referred to a pain clinic.  I told them no he was my dr. N needed to check this n I was informed that RSD wasn't his field that they would call me back with an appt for the pain clinic.  That callback has never came either.
I live in a community of nurses.  They have told me from the beginning something wasn't right.  My physical therapist ( although it is just talk between 2 people ) has told me he does not believe his is rsd.  I can not get another dr. To look at this because they say it has "hardware" in it placed by another dr.  My foot turns black n corpse like when I stand.  My ankle on that foot swells.  My knee still swells to the size of a grapefruit sometimes but always is the size of a softball.  When people see my foot turn colors their mouths fall open.
I have read on some post about discoloration but my looks like a corpse in that it is blue then black looking.
My skin on that leg is peeling,  I have sensitivity issues but only around the plate.
I really don't know what to do at this point.  Any suggestions or even comments would be helpful.  If you have these types of issues n it is normal let me know because any help at all would be great.

I am 11 weeks post accident, I had external fixater rods for 3 wks before surgery  to let swelling go down it waw so bad. They put in two plates, 8 screws, & bone grafts.I narrowly escaped amputation  I've had problems wit my foot since day one. I was told nerve damage. I can't flex that ankle and half the bottom stays numb & it changes in temperature four or five times a day from hot to cold. If I'm up on cruthes or go to the bathroom or anytime its hanging lower than my knee it turns almost a black purple within minetes. If I let it hang too long, it swells major. My docs say this is normal but I don't get much info from them ( charity hospital) but I have been told I have foot drop, don't know yet if pt will help. If the black is moving up your leg I would seek a second opinion. Start with primary doc, explain the situation and ask for a recommendation to another os.
