10 - 11 weeks after acl operation
« on: January 06, 2004, 05:16:16 AM »
Hi all, I have just come across this very useful website. I had my acl op (using graft for hamstring) 10 -11 weeks ago and my physio and recovery had been coming on great. I was on the exercise bike after 2 weeks.....just before x mas the physio gave me the all clear to do flat road cycling but i've not had the chance because of the weather. I've also been walking loads everyday until just before x mas.

Anyway, from just before x mas i've noticed a lot of cracking in my knee when it bends and straightens. It also feels rather tight. On the incision scar on the outside of the knee I feel something moving (rather tightly) into my knee then popping back out while bending. Does anyone have any idea what it is or should i be worried. I'll also ask my physio tomorrow.

I also go travelling around the world for 6 months....leaving next week. I intend the do my exercises everyday as i really want to get back to my football when i come back. What exercises should i be doing? I'll have a rather heavy rucksac too. Maybe i can use that for my exercises.

Since reading some messages im a little worried about the occuring problems that people get and require surgical attention. I hope i don't need that as i'll be travelling. Any advice?

Thanks

Ross

Hi,

Its good to find somebody else at this stage, I'm nearly 11 weeks post op (Patellor Tendon Graft).  I'm not sure what the popping could be, I had something similar to what you are describing when I ruptured my ACL and was going through a physio regime to gain some fitness  before the reconstruction, it eventually disappeared, one of the physio's mentioned something about a tendon.  I must admit to being very self conscious at the moment and notice every crack or groan that my body makes, I'm feeling old even though I'm only 26.

I've just started working out on the exercise bike (2 weeks) and stepper machine (2 weeks), but am still trying to cautious, maybe over cautious at times.

Anyway keep up the good work, enjoy your break and good luck with the rest of your rehab
Complete ACL tear in left knee Feb03.  Fixed using Patellor Tendon Graft Oct-23-03.
Playing soccer 3 times a week, back to enjoying my life the way I want to.

Hi, thanks for replying. Im looking forward to seeing the physio today as i'll have lots of questions to ask. Hopefully everything is ok and "normal" and nothing to worry about regarding my travel.

I'll let you know how i get on. However, all advice and help welcome.

Thanks
