A controversial subject but think you'll find that most people would recommend having it done to get some quality of life back. You need to enjoy your life and walk now whilst you are young and can enjoy it.
Your giveaway is the line ' I can barely walk, can't ride a bike for long' and your reference to severe pain.
I had a full knee replacement a bit older than you at 42, but again had no choice as I just couldn't walk far.
From your post it looks like a Partial Knee Replacement - semantics, but that is replacing part of your knee joint - not your knee cap. Most Docs move your kneecap to the side and then put it back after the Operation.
As years go by, I am sure there will be better knees and improved techniques. Only having a PKR buys you a bit more time to put the best in when you inevitably head for a full Knee Replacement.
I would certainly go ahead.
