MPFL Reconstruction-both knees
« on: August 07, 2012, 05:08:27 AM »
Hello, I recently went to a new OS and I liked the new one a lot more than the first one I went to...I spent 2 hours with the new one, while the old one I would spend about 10 mins. My first OS said I had Patella Alta that he determined after an MRI. But after I went the the new OS and had x-rays updated, it was determined I don't have Patella Alta. While I was with my 2nd new OS they determined that I would need MPFL Reconstruction done to both of my knees, (one knee at a time, starting with my right knee in 2 weeks). I also was told that I have a knobed knee on my left leg and that I would possibly need a TTO done I think.    I am at the point where they pain is bothering me so bad I just want them to do the surgery now, even though I have read it is a painful recovery. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that I'm going to have to go through it twice...and from what I have read of other's post-op diaries...It's not fun the first time.

Hi Sambob925, I don't envy you at all, I had mpfl on both my knees together and I'm not going to lie to you, it isn't easy. You are fortunate enough to get both separate, I really wanted that but my surgeon said no both, now looking back on it it got it over and done with. I'm not 48 days past my op. My right knee is now back to normal, left a wee bit behind but surgeon and physio said I'm progressing quickly :) you are lucky enough to have both knees separate so you have that "good" leg while healing. The best advice I can give you is ice and hot water bottles. They give you relief sometime better than meds. And while you're recovering and building up the quads again in your operated knee, do the same exercises for the other as it builds it up for the operation and is helpful for rcovery as the muscles fade fast. Good luck with your operartions!! And keep us updated!
