Nah, the wound wasnt too bad - about 18-20cm down lateral side of knee ; my surgeon used a continuous subcutaneous stitch though so I only had to have 2 stitches removed from it and 2 more from the drain wounds on the medial side. 7 months on the scarring is minimal.  One thing I would say is that because of the clamping back of the peroneal nerve the pain post operation for about the first 48 hours was really bad - managed it ok with oxycontin tablets but regular stuff wasnt touching the pain so  it may be worth discussing post op pain relief with your surgeon pre op.

Hi - no, not got any posterior instability thankfully - had a lot prior to surgery, locking my leg straight was a lot of pain for months prior to the fix.  i've got some lateral laxity (compared to a 'natural' ligament) which feels weird but isnt painful ; I think the hardware in there is stronger than a natural ligament so I dont think there's much chance of it failing.

Hey guys I had the exact op
On the 23rd July. I was in theatre for 5 hours my knee was very unstable. Got to have op number 2 on the 18th aug to mend my plc. Currently in a knee brace and crutches and pain comes and goes. Nice long scare across The cap and 2 small scare on one side of my knee and on on The other.  Started physio already which is a very painful experience I must say!! Anyway that's all for now it's 01:20 am London time

Hi guys, I am 2 weeks post-op from a PCL reconstruction surgery with a hamstring harvest. I wanted to ask some questions as well as open myself up to any questions. I tore my MCL and PCL in January 2012 and was frustrated by how little information I could find on the internet about surgery vs no surgery. I visited 5 different orthopedic surgeons and talked with numerous other physical therapists trying to get as much information as possible. I wanted to just go ahead with surgery but the docs encouraged me to wait. I ended up waiting 8 months and doing a bunch of rehab but the instability didn't go away. Now being post-op, I'm looking forward to PT and running again.

I wanted to know how long you were limited to 90 degrees passive movement and if you were able to reach full ROM afterwards?

Thanks

Hi TFC, im on my 2 weeks post-op mark from a PCL ACL and MCL. things maybe a little different, but generally the idea is to protect your "new" PCL from having excessive pull from your hamstring. my doctor recommended 6 weeks lock at 0 and non weight bear. hence i am being limited to 90 til the 6th week is up. maybe different for your case.

but just an advice, you might not want to rush things. or you might just end up loosening to PCL. cheers!

I had my 2nd op on my knee (plc) on the 18th Aug. Both scar's are healing very well indeed. 1st time in the Hydro pool on tuesday just gone and this friday i be in the Hydro pool again. Feels so great walking without crutches and my knee brace in the pool. Just cant wait stop wearing the knee brace which hopefully will be in a few weeks time..

good to see a nice up to date pcl/plc knee thread! i'll be posting my contribution when i get a chance. I've had my MCL, LCL, PCL, ACL reconstructed twice, as well as an osteotomy and two arthroscipies so i'm pretty well versed in knee surgery.

nice to see an active thread

Hi - good to hear your progress.  I'm now 9 months post-op and it's going well, just a hard job rebuilding my quads to their pre-op strength and there's some (but nowhere near the levels I had pre-op) lateral laxity but I can live with it and it's not really limiting me.

In respect of the 'how long 90 degree locked' question I was about 6 wks until I could go 90 degrees in the hinged brace, but once I hit 90 it really accelerated over the following 4 wks or so up to about 125 or so.

Good luck with the continued recovery guys.

HELLO to all you, and excuse me always for my bad English...

On september, 12 I had my surgery... the doctor has done reconstrucition of PCL and ACL with Allograft (tendon from a dead donor)...

I had my injury 5 years ago (may 2007) during a football match, and I saited all this tme because Some surgeons didn't want to do surgery to me...

Then I focalized my attention on two good italian orthopedics, specialized in multiligament rupture:

dr Volpi (ex Inter club's doctor) from Milano (who is the doctor who has done surgery) and dr Zorzi from Verona...

for dr Volpi I had broken "just" ACL and PCL....

He did to me this two tests for check the Postero LAteral Corner...

1) DIAL TEST   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnk62Y-nDSQ

2) VARUS STRESS TEST    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxV1VhAmKJY -  in this video (this woman has a very great unstablity) the doctor soes the VARUS STRESS TEST at 0:25 minute of video, while the leg was extended...

these two exames are negative and for him Postero LAteral Corner was not to be reconstructed....

the 2nd doctor, Zorzi, instead did to me the VARUS STRESS TEST with leg slightly flexed (30°) and the tibia bent slightly inside: then, for him Postero LAteral corner was broken and to be reconstructed...

I didn't choose doctor Volpi because he did to me the "discount" of PLC in surgery ahaahahah  ;D but for other "logistic" reasons.

I hope that  He was right when he reconstructed t me only ACL and PCL.... because one of more frequent pains that I had before surgery was in "popliteal cavity" where is located postero lateral corner.....and I would have a great frustraction, if I must do also PLC at another doctor....

hello to you!
