Fall after microfracture
« on: June 28, 2012, 05:42:04 PM »
I am three months post microfracture and was doing pretty well until my knee buckled under me as I was walking down a slope and I fell. The knee swelled up enormously and is still pretty big a week later and on strong anti inflams. My surgeon is tight lipped and has now gone on leave, and I'm just feeling sore, stiff and broken. I'm scared I've wrecked the surgery - and I still have to have the other knee done later in the year. What are my options is the microfracture is a failure after this? Help!

First off I know how it feels to feel all broken. I hope your MFX didn't fail but if it did there are other options. I am not 100% but I think some people can have multiple microfractures on the same area. If some people have a failed microfracture they might move onto something like ACI or OATS. So its not the end of the world you still have some options out there. I'm trying to be optimistic about my bum knee, at ,least it gives me time to play guitar. Best of luck

Slambie, I am 10 months post microfracture and still struggling.  Microfractures take quite awhile so I would not give up hope for quite awhile yet.  Keep up with your PT and ask for x-rays, bone scan and MRI after a few more months.  These diagonistic tools are not full proof but should be able to provide some insight into how the microfracture is doing.

Best of luck, hang in there!
