Braces vary depending on the type, but apart from the huge shockers that go from ankle to hip (it won't be one of those!) they are pretty compact and go from roughly top third of lower leg to bottom third of thigh . If you look online, you can see the different types.

I defy them to produce one that will show under a wedding dress... ;D

Yeah don't think it will be that big haha ! He says he doesn't want me relying on it ... For special occasions and thinks it will give me my confidence a need as I explained to him about it knocking that big style ! He also told me today when my knee gives way a have a big lump that forms at side of my knee which is very painful he says a still have alot of bleeding going on in knee and lump is the tissue sticking through .. Starting to feel alot cheerful about it he thinks am doing well but need to rest alot more cause it's all going to take time ... And seemed really supprised other knee doesn't hurt when right knee was tracking so badly and left one has exact same tilt ... Still quite painfully but said other muscle is still trying to pull knee over so still need to work hard at physio keep fingers crossed this knee brace helps me x

I'm sure it will be a big help confidence-wise! I've been hoping for a brace myself for the same reason, but my surgeon said today that it would lead to more wastage of my quad muscles. Mad man - I only wanted it so I could drive, and to walk at work for a couple of hours a day! Grrrr....

It all sounds good Tink. Hopefully you have turned a corner now and things will just keep getting better.  ;D

Aw brams that's bait of a shame he won't give u one if u think it will help ... Mine didn't mention brace till I mentioned I wanted to wear high heels on my wedding day haha ! His faced looked abit doubtful but said a could maybe attempt it with brace and manage down the church ! So hoping my wish of walking normal for that will come true ! Bit dissapointed a wasnt told it would take upto a year to heal and how slow and long it would be so a could of sat and thought about money and work for the wedding ! ... But if one thing pain isn't nearly as bad as before and have to say very excited about getting fitted for a brace today !

Good luck with the brace fitting Tinks, be as excited as you want girl - its a big step forwards!!

How long before you go and start the fab fun of trying on wedding dresses? Bet you can't wait! Just don't get over-enthusiastic about the heel size - discretion is the better part of valour..... A small to medium heel will still feel like a posh heeled shoe, and TBH on the day you shouldn't be thinking about your shoes lol!! My bridal shoes had about a two inch heel, and boy did my feet hurt by the end of the day....and that was when I had great knees!!

Hope all goes well today. Give yourself a treat afterwards.... ;D

The brace I purchased for my daughter seems to straighten her alignment, but it causes her so much pain she does not want to wear it.  I think we might need to fix he issue before trying to support the knee.

Hi Tinks,

Well done with the physio. As far as I understand it, 130 degrees of flexion is what they tend to aim for with knees that have had work, but some people can get to 140 degrees or even slightly more!

The swimming thing is definitively a good sign that things are going well movement-wise. Lifting your leg in the water is the precursor to doing it on land. The water supports up to 75% of your weight, so it's just like lifting it without a lot of the weight of your leg and foot on the end! All that water work is strengthening the muscles that will do the job on land. It'll happen Tink, you're working hard, can't ask more than that...

Tink,

My OS diagnosed my 14 year old with Chondromalacia and recommended a LR.  I have since found out that this may be the wrong way to go so I am asking for an appointment with a Patellofemoral specialist.  She is not aligned correctly after having a fracture of her growth plate several years ago.  She is either bow legged or knock kneed....not sure which but she is in pain.

I am not allowing surgery until we get CT scans and find out how many degrees she is out of alignment and totally what is needed.

Aw russ sorry to hear of her problems especially been so young which is why u prob want to sort it so she can grow up pain free yeah deffo get an opinion since lr done for the wrong reasons can end up making problems worse ! I didn't get many tests done trusting my os who is a sports specialist and one of the best knee specialists and 2 MRI scans I went ahead with lr and I am glad I did saving the cartilage I did have left and os was supprised my other knee isn't painful with it been the same knee and right knee tracking so badly ! I had one os tell me my degree of tilt was normal and I would gain nothing from surgery and can now cycle pain free ! I hope ur daughter gets some answers and if they feel lateral release is a good option I am always an email a way to offer advice ... It's not easy but been young she will get there in no time one thing I would recommend for anyone no matter what surgery is build quads up my quads are really gone ... And is taking forever to build up and prob won't of been as bad if they were stronger ! Regret not working harder celebrated my birthday which didn't include me dancing away which I love but can't do at this time ... And really working to walking normal on my wedding day hoping I get there but day is slowly creeping in :( keep me posted about ur daughter x
