Glad to hear you are doing better surfbum :D. Question how does one go about getting denovo NT? I live in maine and I don't think my OS has even heard of the procedure. I also have no health insurance so getting treatment for my condition might be close to impossible anyway  ::). I figure even if I am too broke to afford surgery it never hurts to fish for info. Thanks for the info. Also again Id like to say its really awesome to hear you can get back to doing active stuff again. Best of luck to you!

13 months:

Took my first jogging strides this week. For the last month we have been working up to some jogging strides by running in place and "galloping." Felt pretty damn good. Still a long ways to go with getting the coordination, rhythm, and endurance; but felt pretty good.

15 Months:

Still riding the bike 30-40 minutes a day. Strengthening one day a week in the gym (90 minute workout including plyometric jumping and even landing on one leg :-), leg extension, squat machine, hip adduction/abduction machine, stair master for 25 minutes). 30 minute walk few times a week.

As far as running goes, no pain what so ever. I'm doing interval type training at 7 mph on the treadmill and my running endurance makes my PT guy laugh because after 6 minutes I can't breath and he has to grab a towel for me to catch all the sweat! ha. I'm not a runner and never plan to get into it, so long distance endurance isn't a priority of mine.

Looking back, I think the milestones as far as time goes and progress is definitely 6 months, 1 year, and 1 1/2 years. I'm at 15 months and it feels a little better than when I was at 12 months, so weird how it works like that. Tortoise definitely wins the race and there is really no point in pushing it; don't let human emotion and your competitiveness get in the way of safely progressing :-)

surfbum, how are you doing now?

What is the expected length of time the Denovo implant is supposed to last?  Is it theoretically forever or is it a set number of years?
