Bruises that keep... returning?
« on: October 08, 2011, 07:00:38 PM »
Hi all. In August I had an arthroscopy on my left knee for general debridement and removal of a large loose body. There was significant post-op bruising that took a long time to disappear.

Every now and then, some of the bruises around the superiomedial porthole (incision point through the tip of my vastus medialis muscle) seem to reappear... not as dark or as vibrant as they were originally, but in the exact same shape. They are faint, but definitely there... sometimes I see them and think they are just shadows, but on closer inspection realize the bruise has returned.

What would cause bruises to seemingly disappear and reappear in this fashion? Has anyone else experienced this?

I wonder if scar tissue keeps attatching itself to the tissue underneath of that port and then you do something to tear it loose and then it bruises again.  Then it attatches itself again and you do the same thing?  Keep massaging it so that the scar tissue does not attatch itself again.  Don't rub hard but try to move the tissue around.

Hi There,

I sometimes get slight bruising after a run on my right knee and could well be scar tissue from surgery back in November 2009. The pain and swelling is mainly at the bottom of my knee close to the portals so easy to work it out that scar tissue is causing the pain and swelling.

Maybe could get my physio to do some deep friction massage!
