Rehab after Microfracture in UK
« on: September 29, 2011, 03:44:29 PM »
Hi all!

I had microfracture of my knee done on the 15th September 2011, I'm 22 and this was done due to damaged cartilage due to swimming semi-professionally for a number of years.

I have been told to be no weight bearing for 6 weeks and then partial for 6. I have 3 different stretches to do until I see the physio in a week- this will be 3 weeks post op. I am just wondering if anyone knows the rehab prog used in the UK. I have looked at the Steadman one and that doesn't seem to be the one i'm following- as i'm not allowed to use the bike or swim as of yet. I have been signed off work for the whole of the non-weight bearing 6 weeks due to the nature of my job so i'm anxious to be able to use my stationary bike at home!!!

Thanks :)

Hi
I am in the UK and was told that after 3 weeks to start doing a tiny bit of biking.
Had my surgery on the 1st of July so am 3 months in. Am walking without pain, but still got swelling and just concentrating on quads at the moment.

You got Physio ? Just follow there instructions and you'll be fine.

Mine was a fx of 2cm squared on lateral fem con.

Hi i  am from uk, this is my second mfx performed yesterday firs one failed changed surgeons and hospitals. I had microfracture done on the  femoral condyle. However i have a ruptured ACL cruciiate  ligamament inkjury which cannot be repaired because of arthritis in knee.

Anyway 1st time at previous May 2010 hospital never gave me  any crutches told to weight bare straight away ( No wonder it Failed)

Now to present op yesterday. The surgeon did the microfracture i have crutches but have been told for 6 weeks i am able to put 10 - 20kgs of weight on leg when using both crutches. It is hard to judge how much weight yiu put on so i just put my foot down but take as much weight as i can through crutches. I had a large are damaged.

It is a gamble, i have been told 50% chance of working. However i was lucky to be given this chance by surgeon, he wanted to TKR, i dont want that i love the gym and exercise.

So im not sure why you cant put any weight at all one. I hope u feel better soon

Nicky
