I would agree keep your own leg as long as you can.   It's like when you hear the phrase "Take care of your teeth cause there is nothing like your own"
It might not be a very good comparison but I hope you get the picture.    Good Luck!   LAS

I will keep my knee thank yo
I can't walk, much pain since the 1st new knee went in last summer.
I am set for a clean out on 7/27/2012 - but the bone scan on Monday will tell the
story is anything has come loose. The X-rays all look good.
I can still ride the stationary bike at 3.0 miles at 20 mins time
frame. The right knee is doing fine sine it was replaced in Oct of 08'.
Still - I can't walk without pain and a limp.
Be safe to all.....

Hi everyone,
Well it's been quite a while since I originally posted my thread.
I decided to go for the TKR, mainly on the basis that technology will improve over the years.
However, I have had problems with my TKR. I have tremendous pain across the Tibial plateau. The OS thought that after eight operations I may have neuropathic pain. So they put me on extensive medication. 4,800mg of Gabapentin, 160mg morphine MST, 400mg Tramadol plus sleeping meds. I was on this for two months. It didn't help and I am on Tramadol only now.
As the swelling reduced in my knee over the months my knee started moving. It is similar to when my PCL was damaged. I went back to the OS who said my ligaments were more relaxed post op than he had expected so he needs to put a bigger bearing in. So operation number nine coming up.
When I was asleep two nights ago I accidently bent my knee right back. I woke up screaming in pain. It was horrible. Since then my knee is dislocating even more and the pain is much worse. I have to wait four months for my appointment for the operation. Groan.
There have been several time since my TKR that I get fed up and feel like lopping it off to get rid of the pain. It's no answer of course.
So, that's the current state of play. Sorry for not updating sooner.
Love to you all,
Paul.
