Hi

I had ACL reconstruction 3 years a go on my left knee. I had got back into playing sport again full time but unfortunately just over 4 months a go the was a flash point and my knee began to hurt again.

My doctor and consultant suspected I may have ruptured my ACL again but the MRI scans did not show either way. For this reason I had an arthroscopy to look at the ACL.

The ACL was partially torn, the surgeon said he also cleaned up the knee and removed some fibres.

It is now 10 days post this arthroscopy and have a lot of hard swelling above the knee and still very little mobility. I am still having to take pain killers to control the pain and wonder how much longer this will go on for?

Is this normal? I expected to be up and walking without crutches a couple of days post the op?

Any help would be great.

B

I have just had a kinespring implant in my knee and had hard swelling for several weeks due to disturbance of knee.
My daughter is a Homoeopath and gave me a cream to massage into leg and this really helped.
I think any massage would help as the leg seems to have poor circulation when swollen.
If you are immobilised anyway you might as well help the blood supply speed the healing process by massaging your leg as much as possible.
I wish you a speedy recovery but don't  ruin the good healing work by too much activity.

The hard swelling in mine WAS the "organized blood" and the fiberous tissue.  What does the surgeon say about it?
Complete ACL tears in both knees May 2011, plus meniscus tear in left
ACL allograft plus meniscus repair Sept. 14, 2011
