Foot pain 3 years after recon
« on: May 10, 2011, 11:17:01 AM »
Hi everyone,

I've not been here for a while, I'm nearly 3 years post-op. My knee is pretty good now. Sometimes I still have a bit of nagging in the PLC area and aching, but the MRI came back fine so I'm putting it to the back of my mind.

But now I've started having foot problems on the same side. Has anyone experienced similar??

What specifically is going on with your foot?

I have had a lot of pain in my big toe joint of the foot on my ACLr side.  Talked about it with my PT. The verdict...I have too much lateral motion with I walk, still, so my foot is compensating to keep me walking straight, putting a lot of pressure on that joint. My big toe joint was essentially jammed. She massaged it to get it unjammed and gave me exercises to strengthen the muscles on the outside of my leg (above ankle and below knee) to help me correct my gait. This has largely taken care of the problem, although I still get the pain in that joint with certain shoes. I learned how to massage the joint myself with the aid of a golf ball and that seems to do the trick. If it continues, I may need to talk to a podiatrist about getting some orthotics, but since this is a new problem since ACLr, I'm hoping to correct it by balancing out the muscles appropriately.
